16 Most Requested Songs: Encore!
Compilation producer: Didier C. Deutsch.
Recorded between January 1957 and February 1972. Includes liner notes by Roy Hemming.
This is part of Legacy's 16 Most Requested series.
16 MOST REQUESTED SONGS: ENCORE! features more selections of the best of that sure-toned smoothie, Andy Williams, backed by varied musical accompaniments, many of which would overwhelm lesser voices. "Butterfly" is chock full of snappy tempos produced by echoing handclaps, doo-wahs, whistles, and strumming guitars, all creating a musical tangle. However, Williams's deep, sonorous timbre subdues the clamor, as he coolly drawls the lyrics.
"Are You Sincere" is a perfect vehicle for Williams as he gives the slow tempo and pensive melody exactly the right quality of romance. As the title demands, he sings with utmost sincerity, making this recording natural sounding and perfect. From the old world accordion strains of "Charade," to the gentle, exotic samba of "Quiet Nights," and the Tijuana Brass mod of "Music to Watch Girls By," William's persuasive baritone envelops these ballads and makes them its own.
Q (10/95, p.153) - 3 Stars - Good - "...captures the sublime, cloud- bothering baritone of Andy Williams in mostly peak form in the years 1957 to 1972..."
