The music of George Stanford is an appealing mix of classic singer-songwriter fare, roots Americana, and radio-ready pop-rock. Stanford announced these stylistic intentions on his 2007 self-titled debut, and 2008's BIG DROP reprises many of the songs from that release, such as "My Own Worst Enemy" and the title track, with fuller arrangements. Stanford's unique voice shines through on these tracks, but it's his compositions, which manage to be both heartbreakingly honest and pop-minded at once, that impress the most. Stanford also plays all the instruments except drums on BIG DROP, further underscoring the full-fledged arrival of a versatile new talent.
