Seldom in the long-standing relationship of film and music has there been a more natural fit than that of Snoop Dogg and the supernatural thriller BONES. The rapper not only provides the soundtrack for the Halloween flick, he's one of the major characters in the movie itself. As even a casual follower of Snoop's laid-back gangsta style should expect, his low-key delivery can carry a heavy load of ominous tension without swaying. And the over-the-top melodrama that is part and parcel of the hardcore hip-hop work of MC Ren, Kurupt, and Xzibit proves to be just the ticket for conveying a spooky ghost story full of well-orchestrated terror. With the whole thing backed up by a rich production overflowing with thick G-funk sounds, BONES works as both film soundtrack and independent sonic artifact.
