Deep in the RCA vaults is a wealth of unreleased Elvis Presley material, generally alternate takes of songs that appear on Presley's records and soundtracks. COLLECTORS GOLD gathers a number of such recordings from the Sixties and organizes them thematically across a three-CD set. The first disc, entitled "Hollywood," contains eighteen soundtrack songs, including some arrangements and vocal performances different from the released versions (others are similar to the released versions but contain mistakes that caused them to be rejected).
The second disc, entitled "Nashville," is comprised of fifteen non-movie studio tracks recorded in--you guessed it--Nashville, Tennessee. In Nashville, Presley clearly had greater control over both the material and the arrangements than he had in Hollywood, and as a result the Nashville recordings are stronger than those on the first disc. Disc three, "Live in Las Vegas," includes recordings from Presley's month-long stint at the International Hotel in 1969. The performances are similar to those released on ELVIS ON STAGE. This package is clearly geared toward the completist Presley fan.
