This double feature contains two classic British horror films:
DEAD OF NIGHT (1945):
DEAD OF NIGHT is a classic horror film with different directors handling different parts of the story. Alberto Cavalcanti, Charles Crichton, Robert Hamer, and Basil Dearden all contribute to this wickedly fun fright night. The film begins as Walter Craig (Mervyn Johns), on seeing Eliot Foley's house, pauses querulously. Meeting the assembled guests, he falls into numbed silence. Although Craig has never visited Foley (Roland Culver), the experience is eerily familiar. He has seen this place before and has met these people--in a recurring nightmare.
QUEEN OF SPADES (1949)
Based on Pushkin's short story, Anton Walbrook stars as Herman Suvorin, a 19th century Russian Army captain who wishes to gamble with his colleagues, but is too poor to risk his money. When he hears that a mysterious countess (Evans) holds the secret to winning at faro, he hatches a plot to discover the secret for himself, a secret that reportedly cost the countess her soul.
