A gorgeous multimedia package that includes a small book and a 14-track CD of absolutely beautiful melodies plus an additional CD-R track that adds PDF files of illustrations, lyrics, and translations, Dream Songs Night Songs from Mali to Louisiana isn't just for children. The music, which features musicians from all over the world who have made Montreal their home, is by turns sweet, elegant, moving, and impeccably arranged and presented, making for a kind of sublimely soothing suite of lullabies that is not only calming but endlessly varied. Among the highlights in what is a wonderfully coherent sequence are the songs "Makun" from Mali, "Little Fishy" from Australia, "Thula Thula" from South Africa, and "Los Pollitos Dicen" from Costa Rica, but picking out favorites here is a bit like deciding which star in the night sky is the prettiest. In the end it is the whole sky that delights. ~ Steve Leggett
