The fourth album from Claudia Acuna, EN ESTE MOMENTO, continues the Chilean jazz singer's synthesis of Latin roots with a deep love for the tradition of classic vocal jazz. Produced by Branford Marsalis, EN ESTE MOMENTO is crisp and contemporary, featuring superior musicianship and group interaction, but its heart beats to the sound of Spanish-language gems by the likes of Ruben Rada and Victor Jara (in addition to some fine originals by Acuna herself). Rather than sounding like a fusion experiment, the music is organic and wonderfully integrated, a reflection of the "world music" (one that acknowledges all styles) that the world is moving toward.
Down Beat (p.64) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "This album's merit reaches beyond its exquisite sound and into the realm of deep meaning. Acuna has woven an important social history out of the short stories these songs narrate."
