A young orphaned French girl is taken in by a peasant family during WWII. Becoming fast friends with the young son, the two children begin playing games imitating the tragedies of war around them. Academy Award Nominations: Best Motion Picture Story.
Young French girl Paulette is orphaned when her parents and pet dog are killed while fleeing the Nazis during World War II. While wandering through the countryside with her dead dog in her arms, she is befriended by farm boy Michel, who brings her home to stay with his family. They decide to create an animal cemetery for pets killed in the fighting and use monuments from the nearby human cemetery to mark the graves. This desecration, as well as a trivial feud between rival farm families, threaten the children's newfound friendship.
Additional cast: Suzanne Contal, Jacques Morin, Laurence Badel.
