This album is for those who both enjoy Joan Baez's smooth yet passionate singing, and appreciate the beauty of the accents and inflection of Spanish. Sung completely in the aforementioned Romance language, GRACIAS A LA VIDA is both traditional--no horn sections here--and decidedly exotic.

Baez's voice sound exquisite and natural; the album succeeds because of her sincere lyrical delivery and stunning elocution. Of particular note is her lush, memorable version of "Dida," featuring both the jazzy improvisations of singer Joni Mitchell, and the man said to be the most recorded guitarist ever, Tommy Tedesco. The soft rumba feel of "Llego Con Tres Heridas" provides a subtle finale to this foray into Spanish music.
