A 1980s adaptation of the classic adventure novel, and the third Hollywood version, following the success of INDIANA JONES. Richard Chamberlain stars as Allan Quartermain, one of two adventurers who vie for an enormous treasure in the heart of a dangerous African country. Sequel: "Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold."
When damsel-in-distress Jessie Huston needs someone to retrieve her kidnapped father, she calls on the one man who can do the deed: hired gun Allan Quatermain.
Jessie's father is an archaeologist who knows the location of a cache of loot once owned by King Solomon. After Quatermain finds the elder Huston, Jessie and the brave soldier of fortune elude crocodiles, lions, elephants, cannibals, quicksand, and falling rock slabs in the hunt for Solomon's gold.
Even more threatening are two creeps tracking the treasure -- the menacing Colonel Bockner and brutish mercenary Dogati. Throughout the jungles of Zimbabwe, the competing pairs of gold diggers elude one another in cat-and-mouse escapades.
But only one duo will make it back with the treasure.
"King's Solomon's Mines" was shot on location in Zimbabwe, Africa. This is the third screen version of H. Rider Haggard novel; the 1950 film starred Deborah Kerr and Stewart Granger; and the 1937 incarnation featured Cedric Hardwicke, Anna Lee and Paul Robeson.
Additional cast: June Buthelezi (Gagoola).
Additional credits: Luciano Coen Cagli (art director); Nelle Giorgetti (set decorator); and Tony Pueo (costume designer).
Filmed in J-D-C Widescreen. Color by Rank. Sound recorded in Dolby.
