One of soul music's most overlooked singers, Arthur Alexander was given a bittersweet curtain call in the form of his 1993 comeback album on Nonesuch, LONELY JUST LIKE ME. The forgotten legend, out of the business since the mid '70s, would sadly pass away shortly after its acclaimed release. In the hopes of providing Alexander one more stroll through the spotlight, Hacktone Records reissued the album in 2007. In addition to the original Ben Vaughan-produced release, the package also includes bonus tracks comprised of rare outttakes, an interview and live set from NPR's FRESH AIR, and a stirring live performance of his classic "Anna," recorded in New York City in 1991.
Dirty Linen (p.50) - "Song gems on the album include 'Mr. John,' Go Home Girl,' and 'If It's Really Got to Be This Way,' all testifying to the depth and range of Alexander's talent."
No Depression (p.86) - "LONELY JUST LIKE ME gives us blues, drama, wounded dignity, and remembrance that avoids nostalgia."
The Word (magazine) (p.113) - "'All The Time' will make your bottom lip twitch and your heart tremble, while the extras include some disarmingly intimate hotel-room demos."
