After THE HIDDEN BLADE and THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI, Yoji Yamada concludes his samurai trilogy with LOVE AND HONOR. This Japanese drama stars Takuya Kimura as a newly blind man who must grapple with the weight of the titular virtues in the country's feudal era. Yamada and his co-screenwriters adapt their film from a story from author Shuuhei Fujisawa.

4 stars out of 5 -- "This is an exquisite study in subtly shifting moods that are reflected by the passing seasons and Kimura's realisation that love is stronger than honour."

Review 2:
"LOVE AND HONOR is that increasing rarity, an impeccably made classic Japanese period picture in which a nobility of spirit is tested amid the most beautiful of settings, revealing the harshness and hypocrisy of a feudal society of the utmost formality and rigidity."
