Stand-up comic D.L. Hughley became a household name via the Spike Lee film THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY, and subsequently starred in his own TV show and several comedy specials. It wasn't until 2005 that he got around to releasing his own album though. NOTES FROM THE G.E.D. SECTION, like most great comedy records, captures the performer in a live setting, interacting with the audience and feeding off their laughter and energy. Over the course of the album, Hughley tackles the usual topics of family, love, sex, work, etc. He doesn't stop there, though; while he's not a political comic per se, he has no qualms about discussing 9/11, subsequent military actions, and the questionable worth of blind patriotism. The fact that he tackles these issues with the same down-to-earth, seen-it-all approach he brings to more mundane subjects is an indicator of how skilled Hughley is at his craft.
