This absurdist film from New German director Alexander Kluge probes women's liberation from a mischievously canted angle. Kluge's sister, Alexandra, plays a put-upon young mother who moonlights as an abortionist and labor leader. Political rhetoric takes a second seat to cinematic pleasures, as the film follows her fight against patriarchy from a Brechtian distance.

Distributor Notes: The sixth feature film by Alexander Kluge, architect of the New German Cinema, is also one of his most remarkable. Once again, Kluge works with Godardian distanciation devices (voiceover commentary, intertitles) to playfully examine a social problem, specifically women's liberation.
