Goldie Hawn stars in this comedy of political errors as Sunny Davis, a ditsy Washington, D.C., waitress who gets herself involved in the middle of international politics when she inadvertently saves a visiting foreign politician from an assassin's bullet. Sunny becomes an overnight national hero and is used as a political pawn in a Middle Eastern government scam, unaware of the plot against her until it's almost too late.
Goldie Hawn stars as Sunny Davis, a naive and ditsy cocktail waitress in Washington, D.C., who finds herself enmeshed in Washington foreign diplomacy when she intercepts a would-be assasin and saves the life of a very important Middle Eastern leader, the Emir (Richard Romanus). Sunny becomes an instant celebrity and national hero, gracing magazine covers and headlines throughout the nation. All this attention gets noticed by D.C. beauracrats, and they hurry to Sunny's side, eager to use her as a political pawn in an American negotiation with the powerful Emir. In exchange for Sunny's promise to marry the Emir, the United States will be permitted to build a military base in the strategically located nation. Sunny is fooled into taking a job in the protocol department, naively believing that she is qualified. She diligently navigates her new life on the inside of the political machine until the Emir and his entourage come to town and Sunny takes them out for a night on the town in her old stomping ground, with riotous results. Finally, Sunny is shipped off to the Emir's palace unaware that she has been set up and is about to become a Middle Eastern queen. What is in store for her--and eventually for the U.S. government--brings Herb Ross's charming film to an entertaining conclusion.
Sunny's wisecracking friend, Ella, is played by actress Jean Smart, who would go on to star in television's hugely successful DESIGNING WOMEN.
Includes the songs "I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan and "The Glamourous Life" by Sheila E.
