Back when it cost mere pennies to see a moving picture, movies were made on nitrate, a medium highly susceptible to fire and rapid decay. Consequently, many films from the days of cinema s infancy have been lost forever. Surviving here are 54 rare and restored films, from Cyrano de Bergerac (1900) believed to be the first color and sound film, to one of Charlie Chaplin s first appearances in his well-known tramp persona. It s a collector s dream come true!
