Ruth (Roseanne Barr) is the mother of two and the adoring wife of Bob (Ed Begley, Jr.), an accountant with dreams of wealth and fame. He sees his opportunity in Mary (Meryl Streep), a famous romance novelist. When Ruth realizes Bob's infidelity, she sets out to destroy his life, using his list of criteria for success.
Ruth's hubby has dumped her for an alluring and wealthy and blond romance novelist. But Ruth doesn't get sad, Ruth gets even. And in short order she cleverly manages to destroy her rival's home and her husband's business -- while building a new life for herself.
