Harvard Law freshman Mark Watson, having been cut off by his millionaire dad, tries to fund his education by tinting his skin with tanning pills and passing as African-American. But after being nearly evicted by his landlord, arrested by the police, and subjected to an endless barrage of "no offense" racist jokes, he learns that being black isn't the easy way out by far. But he must face the real repercussions of his ruse when he falls in love with a hardworking black single mother, who is the rightful recipient of the scholarship he received. A surprisingly effective treatment of race and affirmative action issues, comfortably ensconced in conventional "campus comedy" fluff.
A white student cannot afford Harvard Law School's high tuition, so he darkens his skin and applies for a minority scholarship. He wins the award, but must continue wearing blackface while attending. It doesn't take long before the newly dark-hued student discovers firsthand the inequities and difficulties of being an African-American. However when the student begins dating a black girl, his predicament intensifies, forcing him to confront the ethics of his situation.

Review 3:
"The movie has a lot of good music in it, some on the soundtrack, some on the screen. Jackson and Bernie Mac have enormous fun doing intricate dance move together. Isaac Hayes has a farewell role worthy of our memories.
