Based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, this well cast film is enhanced by Tracy's portrayal of an idealistic industrialist who runs for the presidency.
At the urging of a power-mad female newspaper publisher, self-made millionaire Grant Matthews goes after the Republican presidential nomination. In order to enhance his image, he convinces his estranged wife to return to him so they can provide a united front to the voting public. But as the campaign goes along, the liberal candidate becomes increasingly disillusioned with the political process.
Based on the hit Broadway play by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The writers changed the dialogue continuously during the show's run in order to reflect current news and maintain the play's topicality.
