The final installment in Stephen King's spooky hospital drama, based on Lars von Trier's miniseries RIGET, presents a climax toward which the series has been building, novel-like, throughout. Described by King himself as a cross between ER and THE SHINING, the show is set in a hospital that acts as one of the characters. Rebuilt on the same land as an old mill that took the lives of many children when it burned down during the Civil War, Kingdom Hospital is increasingly plagued by supernatural events. Dr. Hook (Andrew McCarthy, PRETTY IN PINK, MONK) is an excellent but troubled surgeon who lives in Kingdom's basement and has a fraught relationship with the incompetent, egotistical Dr. Stedman (Bruce Davidson, X-MEN). Diane Ladd (ALICE, WILD AT HEART) plays the hypochondriac, psychic Mrs. Druse, who is at first the only one willing to explore a paranormal explanation for the strange occurrences at the facility. In the final episodes, Mrs. Druse and her accomplices get in touch with the spirits from the Old Kingdom, and learn the truth about the Kingdom's forefathers.
