A strange gelatinous organism from space falls to Earth in the small American town of Arborville. The blob engulfs and eats dogs, then humans, then everything in sight as it grows larger and more harmful to the townspeople. The government gets involved, but are their motives in the best interest of the citizens? Hockey-haired rebel Brian (Kevin Dillon) and brave cheerleader Meg (Shawnee Smith) may be the only townspeople to uncover the secret to it all! The classic 1958 monster film gets a modern facelift in which the major difference is the grade of special effects on display. The plot remains essentially the same, with a dash of conspiracy and paranoia thrown in for good measure, but the blob--and the full-view digestion of its victims--is more frightening than ever.

The Blob, a man-eating ball of pinkish plasma, falls from the sky in a meteor one lazy autumn night. After devouring an unlucky hermit who lives in the woods, it moves on to battle government officials and two local teens for the lives of the townsfolk.

"The Blob" is a remake of the 1958 film of the same name, which starred Steven McQueen, Aneta Corseaut, Earl Rowe, and Olin Howlin. It cost a mere $240,000 and was filmed on location in Pennsylvania. That "Blob" was directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. from a screenplay by Theodore Simonson and Kate Phillips, based on an idea by Irvine H. Millgate. Jack H. Harris produced both the original and this 1988 remake.

The 1958 version produced a comedy sequel, "The Son of Blob," which was directed by "Dallas" star Larry Hagman in the early 1970's.

Shot in Technicolor. Sound by Ultra-Stereo.
