On their third self-titled album, this obviously Zeppelin-worshiping L.A. outfit continue to prove themselves one of the most pummeling but tuneful bands of their milieu. They have the muscle of classic N.Y.C. hardcore bands like Sick of It All, with something of the decadent swagger of the Gun Club. Lyrically, singer Matt Caughthran still appeals to the rebellion of youth, romanticizing his criminality on "Past Lives" and lamenting the state of the music industry on the caustic "Knifeman."
Spin (p.100) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Here they dial down the Black Flag-derived chaos of THE BRONX (I) and (II), unleashing sharper melodies and boogie rhythms..."
Alternative Press (p.129) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[R]ight now, the Bronx are learning proficiency with new techniques -- and still brining the danger."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.46) - "Underneath it all is a deft band, one populated by sophisticated songwriters....This is the work of master craftsmen..."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.64) - Ranked #5 in Kerrang's Best Albums Of The Year 2008 -- "[I]t's as wild and dangerous as it is stonkingly catchy."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.110) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "If the spirit of punk and the brawn of US hardcore is to be found anywhere today then it is in this, the third dazzling full-length album by The Bronx."
Clash (magazine) (p.95) - "[W]hen they're at their best, being snotty, pissed-off punks, they'll make you pissed-off too, in the best possible way."
