This CD could be considered a best of collection, were it not concentrating exclusively on the short period of years in which Starr recorded for RCA. Her voice and ability to bring out the best of a song is apparent in just about everything she's ever waxed. Yet these 20 songs are surely some of the finest recordings in the jazz and pop genres of the 1950's.

The songs themselves are classics, and Kay sings them as if she were weaned on them. The way she belts the pithy number, "Little White Lies," infuses the song with a good-humored boldness never before revealed in the song's 25-year history. The depression-era "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams" is given a rousing and rhythmic makeover that stomps out the hard times the lyrics speak of. Kay Star has an immense set of pipes and she sounds not unlike the great jazz instrumentalists Lester Young and Herschel Evans in her varying voicing on "It's Funny To Everyone But Me."
