The soundtrack to the 2008 comedy THE ROCKER, starring Rainn Wilson (THE OFFICE TV series, JUNO), features a collection of songs performed largely by singer/multi-instrumentalist Teddy Geiger, who plays a central character in the film. Geiger's amiable, pop-savvy sound is embodied by the lively-yet-melancholy "Tomorrow Never Comes" and a surprisingly easy-going version of Poison's hair-metal anthem "Nothin' But a Good Time". The album also presents two tracks by Wilson's fictional former band, Vesuvius--the silly hard-rock numbers "Promised Land" and "Pompeii Nights." Ideal for fans of the movie, this compilation also serves as a stop-gap release for Geiger, after his well-received '06 debut, UNDERAGE THINKING.

The Rocker follows a washed-up drummer named Fish (played by The Office's Rainn Wilson) who got screwed and dumped by his old heavy metal band, Vesuvius, who have since gone on to fame and glory. Fish joins his nephew's teen-pop garage band and hijinks ensue. For the most part, the film's soundtrack is a solo album for precocious upstate New York-based singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger, whose melodic midtempo jams place him firmly in the Daniel Powter/post American Idol/adult alternative rock scene. (It should be noted that Geiger plays the lead singer for the fictional band ADD, who employ Fish.) But the best tracks are the two from Vesuvius, who sound like an unholy blend of Mott the Hoople, AC/DC, and Meat Loaf -- the opening scream on "Pompeii Nights" is pretty great. ~ James Christopher Monger

For the most part, the film's soundtrack is a solo album for precocious upstate New York-based singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger, whose melodic midtempo jams place him firmly in the Daniel Powter/post American Idol/adult alternative rock scene. To be fair, Geiger is the lead singer for the fictional band ADD, who employ Fish, but the nine (out of 12) cuts that make up The Rocker's backbone, despite a half-ass stab at irony with a cover of Poison's "Nothin' But a Good Time," go in one ear and out the other like a high-school geometry lecture. The two tracks from Vesuvius, who sound like an unholy blend of Mott the Hoople, AC/DC, and Meat Loaf, offer the album's only fun moments (the opening scream on "Pompeii Nights" is pretty great), resulting in a decidedly unfunny soundtrack for a comedy. ~ James Christopher Monger
