Shot on location in New York City, Peter Bogdanovich's madcap comedy follows the lives and loves of the employees of the Odyssey Detective Agency and the subjects of their investigations. Timid Charles Rutledge (John Ritter) has developed a crush on Dolores Martin (Dorothy Stratten), who is suspected of cheating on her mate. Meanwhile, ladies man John Russo (Ben Gazzara) is flirting with beautiful cabbie Sam (Patti Hansen), annoying a former love, country-western singer Christy Miller (Colleen Camp), and embarking on an affair with the subject of his investigation, the lovely Angela Niotes (Audrey Hepburn). Even Odyssey's owner, Leon Leondopolous (George Morfogen), gets in on the action by having an affair with his secretary. In an unfortunate real-life footnote, just prior to the film's release former Playboy Playmate Stratten--who was also Bogdanovich's mistress--was brutally murdered by her estranged husband, who then committed suicide.
An amorous, madcap detective comedy with an all-star cast, THEY ALL LAUGHED is directed with flair by Peter Bogdanovich. When a private eye begins his hunt for a criminal, he becomes more than just professionally involved with his lady client.
Filmed on location in New York City.
STAR 80, directed by Bob Fosse, is about Dorothy Stratten's short life, and stars Mariel Hemingway and Eric Roberts.
