Decades before her television show, Dinah Shore was trained singing Broadway, Tin Pan Alley and Hollywood songs. Like many entertainers of the 1940s, she performed for American men and women stationed overseas. The V-disc program issued records specifically made for those fighting in the war, to give them a reminder of home, and nobody was homier than Dinah Shore.

An intimacy and warmth pervades her delivery on these 22 selections. She chimes out standards like "Under My Skin" and "Remember" in a manner that recalls a time when a coterie of chanteuses caressed songs with tender care. Her sweet style gives these tunes an appeal that's just as moving today.
