The pumped-up mixture of gospel, pop, and rock that is the territory of Bishop Jakes sounds all the more vibrant when presented in front of an excited audience that allows for a two-way exchange of energy. Jakes's impassioned vocals sit triumphantly atop a full gospel choir and electric band as he ceaselessly leads both his group and his audience in praise of the Lord. Jakes brings things down a bit from their fever pitch on more ballad-oriented entries like "Release the Power," but somehow the level of intensity generated remains undiminished.
