Barketta on CD

Mike and Damian have been recording music together since meeting at University . Their first musical venture, 100 Pipers (with Guy Cochrane on piano and Dave Bennett on lead guitar), fused jazz and pop but a more rock-oriented approach came with a name change to Halcyon Days (and new bassist Andrew Smith) and led to the band being picked to perform live for BBC Radio 1 as part of their Sound City festival. As with many bands, Halcyon Days never realised their undoubted early promise and went their separate ways, but Mike and Damian continued to write music and, occasionally, perform live. With demos taking shape and encouragement from music industry professionals, they decided to record a full production album under the name Barketta. (The name is derived from Barchetta, which means 'little boat' in Italian but comes from a shared fondness for quirky sports cars.) Between them, Mike and Damian handle all writing and production duties. Many of their songs have a full band sound, which means Damian records 'live' drums and then adds bass guitar before Mike lays down his guitar, keyboard and vocal parts. You'd imagine that would prevent Barketta from playing live but all of the songs on the album were written, in the first instance, for either acoustic guitar or piano so the show can go on - unplugged.
