Bruno Råberg Bruno hails from Sweden and currently resides in Boston. He started performing very young and at age 20 he joined Swedish trombone virtuoso Eje Thelin's group. During his four-year stint with this band he played the major festivals in Europe as well as the Monterey Jazz Festival in the U.S. Since moving to the US in 1981 Bruno has performed/recorded Sam Rivers, Jerry Bergonzi, John Medeski, Jim Black, George Garzone, Billy Hart, Bob Moses, Mick Goodrick, Dick Oats, Kenwood Dennard and Bob Mintzer to name a few. Ascensio is Råberg's 4th recording as a leader. Previous releases are 'Pentimento' in 1992, 'Orbis' in 1998 and 'Presence' in 2000. He has performed worldwide at festivals and given clinics in USA, Europe, Central America, Japan and South Africa. Råberg endorses B-Band Pickups, Demeter Preamps and Epifani Speakers. '...a gorgeous unaccompanied statement by Råberg. The three weave together some fascinating textures..' *** 1/2 Philip Booth, Down Beat Magazine ' This is without doubt a top-shelf jazz trio. Råberg's writing has a rich emotional core..' David Greenberger, Signal To Noise Magazine 'A fascinating melange of Scandinavian folk melody and modern jazz. The bass solo that opens the program draws on a mood of dark Scandinavian mystery. Highly recommended.' Rick Anderson, All Music Guide (US) 'Raberg's highly original aesthetic embraces Scandinavian folk music, unconventional rhythms and free improvisation with equal success. ...this remarkable trio session by virtuoso bassist Råberg is fresh and consistently challenging.' James D. Armstrong, Jr. -- JazzNow.
