KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS

Summary

Never-before-collected stories from George R. R. Martin, set in the bestselling Game of Thrones world, 90 years before Game of Thrones begins! Complete with 160 black-and-white illustrations.

The three linked novellas in this compilation—which can be considered a sort of prequel to A Game of Thrones, given that they highlight a key bit of history leading up to those events—have been previously published in anthologies, but they are still relatively unknown to the Ice and Fire fans. Our heroes are the noble but impoverished hedge knight Duncan, and his bold squire—a boy known as Egg, but whose real name is Aegon Targaryen, and who will someday become King Aegon V, the Unlikely…and Daenerys’ great-grandfather.

About the Author

GEORGE R. R. MARTIN sold his first story in 1971 and hasn’t stopped. As a writer-producer, he worked on The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and various feature films and pilots that were never made. In the mid ’90s he returned to prose and began work on A Song of Ice and Fire. He has been in the Seven Kingdoms ever since. He lives with the lovely Parris and their cat.

GARY GIANNI graduated from The Chicago Academy Of Fine Art in 1976. He has worked in numerous magazines, children's books, graphic novels and paperbacks. His work debuted in 1990 with his adaptions of The Tales of O. Henry and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Classics Illustrated, and he was the Prince Valiant artist from 2004 to 2012. Gary is influenced by the masters of the Golden Age of illustrating, such as Joseph Clement Coll and Franklin Booth.
