Butter & Eggman by Louis Armstrong on CD
As a jazz vocalist, Louis Armstrong delighted audiences who never really heard his early works, his pivotal Hot Fives/Sevens, or his substantive instrumentals that clearly identified him as the premier vintage jazzman of the 20th century. This collection features only his popular tracks as a singer, which gives short shrift to his career as a whole. For those interested in what Satchmo sounded like as a lyric interpreter, you get such all-time great tunes as "I'm Confessin' (That I Love You)," "When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles with You)," "Black and Blue," "La Vie en Rose," "Summertime," and "Old Rocking Chair." If that's enough for you, this is worthwhile, but if not, there's so much more to discover from this jazz genius, whose talents went far beyond just singing a happy tune. ~ Michael G. Nastos, All Music Guide
