Class of '54 [1201] by Count Basie on CD


This fine CD consists of two radio airchecks from 1954, featuring Count Basie with a nonet and his full orchestra. The smaller group also has trumpeter Joe Newman, trombonist Henry Coker and the tenors of Frank Wess and Frank Foster well-featured while the big-band tracks (which mostly sport Neal Hefti arrangements) finds the orchestra on the brink of great success. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
