Hank Williams: Lost Highway [Original Cast Recording] by Original Cast Recording on CD


The cast recording of the acclaimed stage show Hank Williams: Lost Highway showcases the admirable Hank Williams impersonation performed by Jason Petty, loosely highlighting the highlights (and lowlights) of the singer's legendary life. The songs are spectacular, of course, culling the hits from Hank's career, and the theatrical performances are a little overwrought but still entertaining. The listener never forgets that this is a stage show, with broad and hammy acting segments between the musical numbers, but a couple of tunes push past the limits of the theater -- Michael W. Howell's performances as the virtually unknown bluesman Tee-Tot bring an honest earthiness shadowing Petty's Nashville crooning, and any number augmented by Russ Wever's pedal steel shines with Grand Ole Authenticity. Those who have seen the live performance will be overjoyed by the recording, but straight-up country fans might be rubbed the wrong way by the obvious theatricality of it all. ~ Zac Johnson, All Music Guide
