This volume in the budget-priced French Incontournables series focuses on Wes Montgomery's Riverside period. Here are 13 tracks highlighting all of the stylistic innovations Montgomery introduced on the jazz guitar while either playing the most important tunes of the day, such as Bobby Timmons' "Moanin'," Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight," or Miles Davis' "Freddie the Freeloader," or his own material such as "D-Natural Blues," "Movin' Along," and the incomparable "Geno." In addition, there is a standard or two, such as "Baubles, Bangles and Beads" and "Besame Mucho," tossed in. Montgomery's accompanists range from organ combos to trios to quintets, and the results are always stellar.
