Nubungiute on CD

Mohobob Flores is unquestionably a living Belizean legendary superstar. In 1981 when the musical renaissance now known as 'PUNTA ROCK' was conceived (by the cultural Turtle Shell Band)under the guidance of Pen Cayetano, lead singer and acompanying on the electric guitar, Mohobob was also a lead singer and original turtle shell percussionist. This music has come a long way since it's conception on 5 Moho street in Dangriga. Sound City came along and with the addition of the electronic bass and 'Chagu' Thompson on the keyboards was a new phenomenon and the rhythm took Belize by storm. The neighboring countries heard the music on the airwaves and it spread like wildfire. Honduras and Guatemala Garifuna musicians gave it the Spanish version and was capturing the Hispanic world, then inturn other latin bands began imitating the Garifuna songs and beats. Around the same time, a Belizean group that resided in the U.S. went to Belize, aquired the rights to remake a couple of tunes and made 'Punta Rock' popular among the Creoles abroad, although their pronounciation was inacurate. A fairly well known band by the name of Banda Blanca copied the song 'conch soup' translated it into Spanish 'sopa de caracol', internationalized it and the rest is history. Mohobob then returned to the States after touring with the Lord Rayburn combo as a drummer and released his first solo album 'Roots & Culture' recorded at Wild Adventure Studio in Long Beach CA., which was a big hit! Shortly after, there was a great need for Punta Rockers and the local artists were in high demand. Nubungiute meaning (MY GOD) is Mohobob's seventh album and he would like to give thanks to his creator, deceased mother/father, ancestors, and community for inspiration but most of all to his family that stood by him through his struggles and especially to his fans worldwide, for their love, support and appreciation.
