The FARM grew out of a songwriting session in Tennessee in 2010. Nick Hoffman (Kenny Chesney's longtime fiddle player), Damien Horne (a John Rich discovery and protege), and Krista Marie (a solo artist who had charted a couple of singles with Broken Bow Records) gathered for a songwriting session with songwriter and producer Danny Myrick, and the three solo artists quickly discovered they jelled as a vocal trio. Yeah, what they do falls under the contemporary country music umbrella, but the FARM also has a big dose of Southern rock in its veins, and as this debut album, produced by Myrick and Hoffman, clearly shows, they're a whole lot closer to Marshall Tucker or Tom Petty than they are George Jones or George Strait. Songs here like "Home Sweet Home," "Sweet Sweet Sunshine," "Fresh Off the Farm," and "The Train I'm On" all sport alternative-sounding rock riffs and a cool and confident swagger. This is a subtly varied trio, though, with R&B-styled organ on several songs, a sweet reggae lilt on "Little Boat," and the set closer, "Walkin'," which has a sunshine daydream samba-jazz shuffle feel, all of which suggest this group could develop and go in any number of musical directions. It all adds up to a very nice debut album, and let's call it country for now -- but there's quite possibly more than that in the mix for this promising trio down the road. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
