El Medico de Coqui on CD

El Médico de Coqui pairs pianist Nicki Denner with the exceptional voice of Julian Llanos (who recorded with Latin music legend Arsenio Rodriguez over forty years ago!). This album features Denner's innovative arrangements of traditional Latin love songs- son, bolero and cha-cha-chá- with a hint Latin jazz, played with sabor by some of New York's finest musicians. 'I highly recommend this one!'- Vicki Sola, Latin Beat Magazine ============ Personnel: Nicki Denner- piano Julian Llanos- vocals Rolando Morales-Matos- percussion, coro Jennifer Vincent- bass Mark Miller- trombone Anton Denner- woodwinds Shai Hayo- coro, percussion Willie Martinez- coro ============= Nicki Denner began her career as a jazz pianist in Minneapolis in the early 1990's, where she also worked with area Latin bands. It was there that she recorded her first Latin jazz album, Don't Just Stand There. Nicki moved east in 1999 to be part of the thriving New York music scene. She has performed with Sheila E., Memo Acevedo, Chris Washburne, Harvie S., as well as other jazz and salsa artists in the United States and Europe. ~~~~~ Julian Llanos was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He came from a musical family and has had a long musical career, singing with his first group, Conjunto Monterey in 1949. He came to New York in 1954 and has performed with such luminaries as Hector Rivera and the legendary Arsenio Rodriguez.
