Fresh People on CD

Pottamus brings a sound that is both familiar and different at once. Their alternative pop rock pieces are fused with inspired bass lines, dynamic rhythms and versatile vocals. Poignant lyrics add a rich sense of self awareness to the flowing melodies as they speak of experiences shared by band and audience alike. Theirs is modern rock sound that lives on the edge of pop. 'Our mission is to bring back danceable rock music', says bassist Eric Nissenbaum. With the unbridled energy of their loyal following to power them Pottamus gives an exciting, charismatic and thoroughly enjoyable performance that sings of their love for writing and playing the music that inspires them and their audience. Where'd we come from? In September 1994 at The Peculiar Pub in Greenwich Village drummer Andy Zevon and guitarist / singer Dan O'Donnell were introduced through a mutual friend who neither of them knew they shared until that night. Both had been looking to form a new band but had seen little success in their endeavors. With the conversation immediately turning to music it became clear that each had found a valuable piece to his own musical puzzle. One phone call later and two thirds of the foundation of Pottamus had been set. The keystone stepped through the door at the band's inaugural practice: bassist Eric Nissenbaum. Pottamus debuted as a cover band with a handful of original songs that included many aspects of their musical backgrounds. Their diverse musical palate and charismatic performances propelled them through a slew of gigs on Manhattan's Upper East Side where they developed a sizable following of loyal supporters. Gradually, Pottamus honed their sets until they included an equal number of covers and originals. When the time felt right they took the plunge and began doing gigs based entirely on their diverse original material. The energetic fan response told them that they had made the right choice. In the ensuing months Pottamus had the good fortune of meeting percussionist Danny Shir. Danny's passion for international music and culture excited the band's creative efforts while adding texture to their existing material. It was soon agreed that Danny would become the full time percussionist for Pottamus. His addition to the band has opened up new avenues of musical exploration and song crafting. Confident and creatively charged the group took their material into a small New York City recording studio to work on their debut CD Fresh People.
