Description

Rivka on CD

Q-Ball, the band, consists of music majors Matt Berger on guitars, keyboard and vocals, Chris Bly on drums, Ryan Allen on bass and Joe Pacitti on sax. Their inaugural effort, Rivka, features nine original compositions. The CD is dedicated to the memory of Matt's sister, Rebecca. Q-Ball's innovative, energetic style is influenced by the classic rock sound of Jimi Hendrix, the jam style of Phish and the rhythyms of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band successfully blends their talents into a unique, diverse sound which is all their own, yet with broad appeal. It rocks, but avoids overbearing heaviness and grunge. It's jazzy without losing structure. The lyrics are thoughtful, insightful and sometimes satiric, but never offensive and can be enjoyed by listeners of any age. The CD leads off with White Chocolate, a toe-tapping rocker inspired by juvenile infatuation with arm candy. Days Gone By is an expression of retired relationships and moving on. Religious zealotry and fanaticism is satirized in Holy Hypocrite, a most timely and contemporary topic. Matt sings a heartfelt tome about a life cut too short in Left of Saturday. Teen-age angst influenced by hormones gone wild is the basis for Latex Love. Surface Area is a satire aimed at modern rock music's genital fixation. The CD closes with Stone Cold, an emotional, melodic expression of self-inflicted inhibition and wrestling with fears of rejection. I guarantee you will be impressed and delighted by the mature, professional sound these young gents have achieved. I predict we will be hearing more from these musicians as their careers progress. There's always something exciting about getting on the bandwagon before it leaves the station. Thank you for listening to the samples and I hope you purchase and enjoy the CD.
