Long Black Car on CD

Singer/songwriter Randy Branch showcases all of his strengths on his new, full-length CD, Long Black Car. The rootsy new release contains 11 songs that touch on all of Branch's expansive musical borders, including the terrifically twangy title track as well as hardcore and hard-edged country, thought-provoking, meditative ballads and even a sweet taste of Texas swing. Long Black Car was recorded at Gintown Studios with producer Rick Carter (Rollin' in the Hay) at the helm and with musical support from members of Frankie Velvet and the Mighty Veltones. Branch, with his smooth, sometimes-gritty baritone and intelligent lyrics, is one of Alabama's most popular and respected performers. He has been playing music since the 1960s - inspired in part by his own dad, a guitar and mandolin player - and has also worked as a songwriter in Nashville. Randy's band Oakley Hill (remember them?) was popular on southeast college campuses from 1977-1984 and shared the stage with the likes of Hank Williams, Jr., Alabama, Ricky Skaggs, Steppenwolf, Guy Clark, Johnny Paycheck, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Young and Mickey Gilley. While in Nashville as a writer in the mid-80s, he collaborated on songs with well-known writer Carmol Taylor, including the chart single 'How'd You Sleep Without Me?', which is updated on Branch's exciting new collection. What they're saying about Randy: "Randy Branch exhibits a versatile, even infectious, style and manages to sound not only like himself, but Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash rolled into one." - The Tuscaloosa News "When Branch takes the stage, he attacks the song! It's the energy you've got to see, the feeling between the performer and the audience." - The Birmingham News "Branch's style is unique, yet is as diversified as the song he chooses to sing." - The Pensacola Journal 'An eclectic, often punchy, blend of music. While the guitars are sometimes twangy, Branch's delivery never is.' - Mobile Press-Register 'Randy's a seasoned troubador but not jaded in the least. He carries an enthusiasm to the stage that's inspiring to everyone. A class act, on the stage and off.' - Jimmy Lee Hannaford, performing songwriter "This is the best thing to come out of Birmingham in years." - Rick Carter of Rollin' in the Hay.
