Ready to Fly on CD

Brooklyn born, Richard Benetar first sang in public at the age of three and hasn't stopped since. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1963, Richard worked for several years as a radio disc jockey, appearing in musical theatre productions and working as a vocalist in rock cover bands. In 1971, he "discovered" jazz, quit the radio business and began to teach himself clarinet and saxophone while studying improvisation, music theory and arranging. By 1984, he had earned a MA in Music. Among his teachers were Bill Saxon, Rene McLean, Cecil Bridgewater, Ron Carter and Sheila Jordan. Since the early '80s, Mr. Benetar has been gigging around the US and Europe and has performed with Clark Terry, Frank Foster, Peggy Stern, and the Holmes brothers. His vocal influences are Louis Jordan, Billie Holliday, and early Sinatra. Instrumentally, he favors Lester Young, Dexter Gordon and Artie Shaw. Richard now makes his homes in Yonkers, NY and Tucson, AZ. He is soon releasing a CD of his own jazz and blues based songs.
