Sound the Guitars on CD

Mr. Cosgrove's Spring 2007 release "Sound the Guitars" is a fusion of world beat, jazz, and acoustic finger style guitar. It is a treat for any guitar aficionado. With "Sound the Guitars", Rick successfully paints musical portraits of Pennsylvania Winters (First Snow), sending children off to school (Yellow Bus), moments after a Spring storm (Distant Fog) and walking through city streets with the love of his life (Beside You). Rick proudly presents the title cut as a "trumpet voluntary for guitars". The bonus track, "Queen of the Park" is dedicated to the rebirth of Johnstown, Pennsylvania's historic Roxbury Band Shell. Most of this CD features Rick Cosgrove's guitar mastery. But, he shows he can pen a romantic, lyrical tale with "Queen of the Park" featuring a catchy refrain and guitar hook. Calypso Minor (Luiz Bonfa), Tears (Django Reinhardt), Fandango (Roger Hudson) are solo nylon string tributes to some of the masters of guitar craft. Standards like Scarborough Fair, Let There Be Peace On Earth, The Christmas Song, and an Irish Medley are presented in refreshing arrangements. Rick says, "I enjoy studying the physics of guitar. Different string tensions and materials. Tone woods with varying degrees of vibration. The sustain and tonal qualities of a note played on ebony fret board vs. Rosewood or maple......Thus is born, Sound the Guitars. A collection of various music styles blended together using the "appropriate" guitar. To me, it is just like painting a picture with multiple colors. I hope you enjoy this portrait on guitar." "Sound the Guitars" is quite the departure from Rick Cosgrove's first release "American Dreams". Rick says that "playing guitar is a passion". That emotion can be heard in every nylon and steel string note played.
