Ringers on CD

Ring-er : 1. a contestant entered in a competition under false pretenses. "But what does it sound like?" You ask? Well, it sounds like Ringers, of course, and like their hometown of New London. The pings of passing submarines traveling up the Thames River to the sub base, the grind and rumble of 18-wheelers traveling I-95, and the expansive atmosphere of the coastal sky all influence Ringers' driving, do it yourself rock. Lyrically, Brock Johnson touches on everything from small-town sex to socio-economic hurdles and global pandemics, but he's also influenced by the vibrant arts scene and nightlife that has sprung up in the gritty whaling city where Ringers live. As for musical points of reference, we submit the following: Drummer "Doctor" Matt Allen was weaned on the disparate sounds of The Police and Led Zeppelin. Guitarist Ryan Birmingham digs on Primal Scream and Pixies. Vocalist Brock Johnson's father is a jazz pianist, but his ear is tuned to QOTSA and Television (the band, not the furniture). Bassist Michael Hanna's tastes tend towards the music of Braid and James Brown. We think that if you like any of these bands from the prestigious annals of rock and roll, you'll love Ringers. Ringers formed in 2003 in New London and have been playing in Connecticut and New York ever since. In the spring of 2005, the band recorded 6 songs onto an enormous hard drive in Zyllion studios. Later that year, after much DIY delay, it was released New London indie rock label Cosmodemonic Telegraph. Ringers is currently heading back into the studio for a full-length, which will likely reflect the band's impressive progressions over the past year.
