Turn the TV on on CD

'Turn the TV On' is Rod Davies' second solo album, and follows in the footsteps of his highly-acclaimed debut 'Beautiful Scars'. But it is certainly true to say that Davies has not rested on his laurels with this enticing addition to his gradually expanding catalogue. There are certain obvious improvements which Davies himself has outlined as the goals he set himself prior to recording 'Turn the TV On'. 'I wanted to explore more interesting Lyrics and build the collection of songs around a theme. The TV theme came to me as a result of the massive information explosion around the time of Gulf War II. I had a little soap opera in my head about a couple who don't connect anymore so they just sit and watch TV and soak it all in.' And after just one listen you'll know exactly what he's talking about. This album ebbs and flows and tells a tale in the package of 'Sophisticated Pop' that loses none of it's charm and pop sensibility. 'I also really wanted to experiment with some other sounds. As a piano player from the age of ten, I was often asked why I hadn't put piano on 'Beautiful Scars'. That's all been rectified on 'Turn the TV On', there's some tinkling and a bit of bashing and some really weird stuff thrown in as well.' That's exactly right! And add to this a three piece band, some carefully orchestrated violins, trumpets and Davies' trademark harmonies and you have the sound of this quirky and charismatic CD. So if you like your music Sweet and Tasty with a bit of extra Kick this one's for you.
