Reflection on CD

Rommel Cordova received his bachelors degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1996 and then taught In the White Oak Independent School District and then McReynolds Middle School in Houston until May 1997. In the fall of 1998 he chose to attend Texas A&M University-Commerce to pursue his masters degree in tuba performance. While at A&M-Commerce, Rommel was a graduate assistant and a member of the wind ensemble and the tuba/euphonium ensemble. He completed his masters degree in May of 2000 and is now a director with Royse City ISD. He is also currently the tubist for the Rockwall Philharmonic and the Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra. Rommel is active as a concert artist, soloist, and private teacher. As an active soloist, he has performed a number of recitals and has been a featured artist with bands in Southeast, East, and Northeast Texas. Rommel has also been a performer at the 1999 Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio, the 1998, 2000 and 2004 International Tuba/Euphonium Conferences and was on a performance tour of Europe in July of 2000. He performed a recital at the Texas Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference in 2003 and 2005. Rommel is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, The Texas Bandmasters Association, The Association of Texas Small School Bands, and The International Tuba and Euphonium Association. He has had much success as a private instructor. His students have won chairs in region bands with some advancing to area and the state level. His students have also received first division ratings at solo and ensemble contest. Rommel has studied with Frank Woodruff, Alan Swartz, Jeff Hodapp, Ed Jones, Jimmy Clark, Richard Murrow and Patrick Sheridan. His tubas of choice are the Miraphone 1291 with an Alan Baer 2006 model mouthpiece and the Miraphone 181 with a Alan Baer F tuba mouthpiece.
