Description

RL5 at 50 on CD

The story begins somewhere around the dawn of rock and roll history, let' s call it RL5 t-zero, about the time when other animate life first crawled out of the primordial soup, took those first steps on land, hitched the trailer to the pick-up and headed to Topeka ... Was the Quintet there even then? ... most scholars believe it to be the case. But what drew these titans of rock'n'roll together, and why Topeka? Was it simply destiny?? ... or did it have something to do with Rudy's organ and/or magical fingers??? or Eddie's big bass??? ... oh yeh, and the rain, ... you knew the incredible little man Ernie Fernman wasn't gonna be getting his hair wet unloading any equipment in the rain! And where the hell was 'X' or Danny anyway?? ... or Jr. Lopez for that matter?? Perhaps all men need to turn their eyes inward for the answers. Certainly the RL5 wasn't about to be wasting a lot of time worrying about it one way or the other. Fast-forward to Summer '01, ... and the quintet reunites in Minneapolis in honor of the band members turning 50 ... and maybe even Rudy Lopez himself was there ... perhaps then Topeka may come to mind, or maybe not; well, isn't Topeka really just a state of mind? Or is it, as many rock historians profess, truly a city in Kansas? Now it's 2004 and the band has just released a new CD ... ... to be continued ...
