Chameleons in Disguise on CD

"Chameleons In Disguise" is the second CD from Rullian, a California-based all-instrumental progressive rock/fusion band led by guitarist Raoul Rañoa. Influenced by Sixpence None The Richer, Muse, The Propellerheads, Leo Kottke, Danny Elfman and Kinky, the music on "Chameleons in Disguise' is more symphonic in nature than Rullian's debut, "Is This My Guitar Or An Albatross." The hour-plus CD is structured like a concept album, although any story behind the songs is hidden behind various spoken word mixed in throughout the CD's 27 tracks. "Chameleons In Disguise" is not meant to be a guitar showcase. By focusing on arrangement and structure, Rañoa's compositions play like sonic journeys with each track picking up the plot like scenes from a movie. Although the guitar is the driving instrument in many of the songs, piano, viola, violin and percussion play a much larger role in "Chameleons In Disguise." The result is an orchestrated, layered sound which is sonically more akin to soundtrack or symphonic pieces. "My favorite albums are ones that sounds more like an entire piece of music and not a collection of individual songs," Rañoa states. "I hope that people listen to Chameleons in a similar way." The first Rullian CD has been featured in the San Bernardino County Sun, the Redlands Daily Facts and the February, 2003 issue of MacAddict magazine. The band performed at the San Diego County Fair, The Orange Blossom Festival in Riverside, the Peanut Gallery in Palm Springs and at the Iris Festival in Yucaipa. They also performed for the Chaffey College Scholarship Foundation in Rancho Cucamonga. The new CD has been called an "imaginative tour de force" by Christopher Kelter of Roughedge.com (full review attached). Rullian is currently performing live throughout Southern California.
