Description

Wild West on CD

There is something very striking about the sound. It's roots predate the trendy world of the commercially-catered pop marketplace, and reach to the music of struggle and celebration and release--folk traditions that transcend their age and place, giving the music of the Ruminators a timelessness and resonance. Ruminator founder and songwriter, Greg Scherer, speaks of what draws him to certain artists: 'Those I most revere are intuitives who can tap into the soul--and it can come out beautiful and sublime, ragged, obvious or mysterious, but you feel you are listening to something honest and uncontrived.' A disparate group of musicians, The Ruminators' diverse personalities and musical histories create a wholly new blend. This is the Ruminators second full-length recording titled 'Wild West' on Jackalope Records. This 16-song collection is a feast of musical colors, worlds and imagery, showcasing the broad musical scope and invention of the group--from the Eastern European opening and closing instrumentals 'Behind the Curtain,' and 'Gypsy Lullaby' to the psychedelic folk-funk of the title track to the Celtic ballads 'If I Had' and 'The Night.' 'Wild West' has beed described by San Francisco Examiner writer, Paul Wilner, as 'Sam Shepard meets the folk revival' and in BAM magazine as 'beautiful' and compared to the music of Richard and Linda Thompson. The Ruminators' origin is Sonoma County--a semi-rural area north of San Francisco known for it's redwoods, vineyards, cow-flecked hills and rugged coastline. Founded in 1989, they have established a devoted and appreciative following in their home base as well as made converts among the unsuspecting in their travels. Stay tuned for their long-awaited follow up CD 'Loomings' due out this November.
