Georgie James: John Davis , Laura Burhenn.

Not a Philly soul singer or British football star, Georgie James is the Washington, DC-based duo composed of John Davis (late of Q Not U) and singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn. On their 2007 debut album, these heirs of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham play bouncy pop dripping with sunny electric pianos, multitracked vocals, and big AM-radio choruses. On paper this may sound frighteningly cutesy, but the maturity of Davis's and Burhenn's vocals and writing ensures that this is entertainment for tasteful, albeit nostalgic, grown-ups. Fans of Rilo Kiley and New Pornographers should take note.
Alternative Press (p.160) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "PLACES' cheery vibe is highlighted by a pair of catchy mid-album tracks, the jangling 'Henry And Hanzy' and the bouncy power pop of 'Comfortable Headphones.'"
Q (Magazine) (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 -- [I]t's easy to like their sweet, sunshiney retro pop. Best are the Love/XTC-sounding 'Hard Feelings' and the soaring 'More Lights'..."
