After a self-financed indie debut, MISSION CONTROL is the full-fledged breakout of raucous Atlanta indie rock trio the Whigs. Blending R&B and garage rock with straightforward alternative rock power, the Whigs and producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) balance the band's scrappy indie roots with a clean, radio-ready sound. Highlights include the first single, "Like A Vibration," and the danceable "Production City."
Rolling Stone (p.82) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he attraction is hooks....Nearly every track here highlights a chunky riff you'll want to hear again."
Spin (p.103) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "It swaggers like prime Replacements, though with far greater polish."
Entertainment Weekly (p.70) - "Unabashedly hook-filled, the album will leave you aching to see this group live.' -- Grade: A-
No Depression (p.76) - "The standout here is the anthemic 'Right Hand On My Heart,' with its pounding, skillful drumming and swirling rock riffs."
Q (Magazine) (p.123) - "On the one hand, MISSION CONTROL is this big American glossy rock record, ripe with feverish guitar...Then on the other, it's jean-splitting punk, as vivacious as The Sex Pistols..."
Blender (Magazine) (p.102) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[This album] improves, sonically and in its energy and sharp writing....The Whigs are starting to sound like big men on campus."
